Hoverboard Faceoff: Genesis vs Hoverboarder

Hoverboards are an exciting new way to get from one place to another without having to walk or take a gasoline-fueled car.

Using one can save you time and money, all while having a lot of fun cruising around the city. You may have seen friends or family members using a hoverboard over the past couple of years and have finally decided to invest in one for yourself. The only problem is that there are so many to choose from that it can be hard to know which brand will be the best option.

In this article, we’ve compared our Genesis Gemini model against Hoverboarder, so that you can see for yourself which one might be the best choice for you.

Gemini Hoverboard

The Gemini is a well-designed hoverboard meant for serious travelers. If you want to use your hoverboard for commuting longer distances, this is the perfect hoverboard for you.

The Gemini can move fast, up to 12 mph and travel up to 10 miles on a single charge! And, since it only takes 2 hours to charge, you’ll have plenty of time to refuel for another round.

The Gemini is lightweight, making it ideal for carrying around the subway into the office or classroom. Other fun features are the Bluetooth speakers and LED headlights, so you can use your hoverboard even when it’s dark.

  • Price - $379
  • Range on Full Charge – 10 miles
  • Charge Time – 2 hours
  • Speed – 12 miles per hour

X1 Bluetooth Hoverboard

The X1 Hoverboard from Hoverboarder also comes equipped with Bluetooth technology and lighting. It also has a fairly low price. Unfortunately, the charge time and range are not listed on the website’s product specifications. This information is valuable to people trying to find a quality hoverboard because it’s important to be able to plan ahead when traveling a larger distance.

Their site also lists their speed at between 2 and 10.5 miles per hour. That seems like an unusually wide range. While 10 miles an hour is a relatively standard speed for other hoverboards on the market, 2 mph is very slow.

  • Price - $309
  • Range on Full Charge – Not Listed
  • Charge Time – Not Listed
  • Speed – 2 to 10.5 miles per hour

8” Monster Hoverboard

The most unique feature of the Monster is it’s large 8” wheels, hence the name.

It also has a wide setting for the feet and may add to a feeling of stability when using the board. The Monster has a fast charge time of up to 2 hours, which is great for commuters. Their website unfortunately lists the Monster’s top speed at 12 kilometers per hour, which converts to only 7.5 miles per hour.

  • Price - $399
  • Range on Full Charge – 10 miles
  • Charge Time – 1 to 2 hours
  • Speed – 7.5 miles per hour

The Results

The X1 hoverboard has a great design and good price, however the specs are missing some important information. Without knowing the range and the charge time, it is difficult for an adult commuter to adequately pre-judge this board.

If getting to your appointment or lecture on time is essential, then you’ll need to know how long it takes to charge and how far it can take you. Hoverboarder’s X1 and 8” Monster seem to be well made and are available at a fraction of the price of some competitors. The Monster hoverboard particularly also comes with many advanced features such as Bluetooth speakers for listening to music while on the move.

However, the Gemini hoverboard also has these features, and is much faster (12 mph versus 7.5 mph). Overall, the benefits of the Gemini Hoverboard far outweigh that of Hoverboarder. While they are all comparably priced, the Gemini still comes out to be $20 less, just enough to grab a lunch while you’re out enjoying your new Genesis hoverboard.
