The 7 Most Important Things to Know About your

Electric Skateboard

Over the last few years, Electric Skateboards have become a worldwide phenomenon. With the many different companies and a large variety of boards, including the number of sizes and styles, it can become extremely difficult to find an electric skateboard and a company that will best suite your needs. Whether you are a new electric board rider or an e-skate veteran, it is important to ask the right questions during your search to ensure you purchase the best quality board for yourself.  If you are unsure exactly what to ask, don’t worry- we have you covered! Here are some of the most important questions to consider prior to your e-skateboard purchase.

1. What type of battery does the skateboard come with?
Lithium ion batteries are the most-efficient and best quality batteries for electric skateboards. Be sure the skateboards you are considering are equipped with a rechargeable lithium ion battery.  The lithium ion batteries typically take only 2.5hrs to fully charge, and carry out a long-range distance on a single charge.
    2. Can the battery be replaced?

Once you determine the type of battery, you will want to know if the battery is swappable. Some electric skateboard models have built in batteries where you cannot replace the battery and once you run out of charge, you must manually kick push and ride as a normal skateboard. On some skateboards, such as Genesis boards Hellfire, Stinger, and Tomahawk the battery can be replaced. This feature is important and efficient, as it saves time waiting for the battery to charge by being able to ride an alternate battery while the battery charges. Ensure that replacement batteries are available through the company, in case additional/ extra batteries are needed.

    3. How far can the board ride, before the battery dies?

Many factors can affect the range of an electric skateboard, such as weight of rider, texture of the riding surface, and degree of incline. Our Genesis Tomahawk, Stinger and Hellfire boards can ride for 20 miles on a single charge. This is a great feature when traveling multiple places with short distances, as you do not have to worry about recharging your battery along the way.

    4. How powerful is the motor?

Depending on the size of the board, and the purpose it is being used for, will help determine the motor power in which is best suited for you. Ultimately, if you’re riding in an area with a smooth level surface, without many hills a 250-260 dual watt output would be sufficient. 250-260 dual watt output of the motor can easily scale hills up to 15° and can carry a max load of 264 lbs.

    5. How fast is the skateboard?
For longer boards, about 20 mph is a safe maximum speed, and 12mph for shorter boards. Although it seems that faster boards are better, it is dangerous to exceed speeds over 20 mph on an electric skateboard. Ensure that the company you are purchasing from puts safety first and allows for speeds that can be controlled easily with the remote, and allows for an effortless quick braking if needed. Most of our Genesis riders find 20 mph to be the most convenient and helpful speed when running errands, making their daily commute, and leisure riding as quickly and efficiently as possible.

    6. Does the electric skateboard come with a warranty?
It is important to choose a company that stands behind their product, and offers a warranty that will repair and replace your board due to any manufacturer product defects. Our Genesis products come with an extensive 6-month warranty for our customers to ensure a solution to anything that might go wrong.

    7. What post-purchase support does the company provide?

When choosing an electric skateboard, it is important to consider a company that offers exceptional and extensive customer service. Before investing, email the company and understand their response. As a valued customer, you should feel secure with your purchase, and comfortable that the company will be available to help when needed. Here at Genesis, we are available 24/7 via email, phone and social media.

We understand that the ever-growing electric skateboard market could be overwhelming, but hope the questions we have outline will lead you in the right direction to finding the best company and e-skateboard for you!
